Formulating a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Justice Statement

As with mission and vision statements, a DEI statement provides a guiding light for an organization to use when navigating complex situations, change and uncertainty.  Working together to formulate this statement can be a great opportunity for alignment among leaders, a chance to take bold action towards change, and a way to express your organization’s commitment to fostering a welcoming workplace that celebrates differences.

Winds of Change

  1. Crowd Sourcing: Using techniques from design thinking, we’ll gather insight into the core values of your organization and how its mission touches lives.

  2. Stakeholder Engagement: Through in-person conversations and virtual communications, we’ll engage the feedback of your key stakeholders to formulate some initial DEIJ statements.

  3. Synthesis & Consensus Building: With broad feedback in mind, we’ll synthesize the initial statements into one that incorporates all the key ideas and build consensus among contributors, incorporating revisions until we have a statement that expresses the organizations’s deepest values.

  4. Presentation & Recommendations: When the DEI statement is finished, we’ll also provide your organization with a synthesis of key ideas and action steps that came up throughout the process.
